Prayer

United Methodist Women Prayer Chain

When Fountain Park Church was built, above the Erie Avenue entrance, "The House of Prayer", was engraved. We are called to be praying people.

The volunteer Prayer Committee for the United Methodist Women group is dedicated to continually stimulate our church members to pray for the sick and to intercede on behalf of someone else who needs God's help.

Therefore let us pray in solitude for our church family as we pray for ourselves.

You need not be a United Methodist Women member to be a part of the prayer chain. Only indicate your desire to help and your name and phone number will be included so you might respond accordingly with love for those in need.

If prayer is desired you may phone the church office, 452-1319 or call Dorothy Drescher at 565-2462.

Hedge Hogs

"Have you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land." Job 1:10

Hedge Hogs are individuals that pray for the pastor of our church, forming, essentially, a fence, wall, or hedge around the pastor (hence the term Hedge Hogs). The Hedge Hog prayer group came into existence about 2005. It was during a church bible study that a discussion began about the needs of the church. During that discussion we talked about the pastor praying for members of the church, but the question was raised, "Who prays for the pastor?" The pastor of any church is confronted with the same temptations that confront us all. In the recent past we've seen pastors from numerous denominations across the country that have fallen to temptations. For a pastor to be the spiritual leader of the church, he needs help to protect him from these temptations and the work of Satan. We talked about building a hedge of protection by using prayer to protect our pastor. This is how the "Hedge Hogs" came to be. Members of the congregation that were interested were asked to sign up as a Hedge Hog and they would be assigned one or more days a month to pray for the pastor and his family. The goal was to have at least one person praying for the pastor everyday of the month, every month. We feel that through the power of prayer this helps our pastor stay more God focused without the distractions that Satan may put in his path. Remember, prayer is God's appointed way for us to relate our concerns and present our needs to him. God has even given us instructions on how to pray in Matthew 6:5-13. Today a sign-up sheet is located near the pastor's office. Anyone interested is always welcome to join the Hedge Hogs to pray for the pastor and his family. You don't have to attend meetings, you can pray from the comfort of your home. Ultimately, this will make for a church that has a stronger relationship with God.
