Haiti

Located just 600 miles southeast off the coast of Florida lies the island of Hispanola. Haiti occupies the western third of this island and it is the poorest country in the western hemisphere.   It is a country of 9 million people - 80% whom are unemployed and try to exist on less than $2 a day.  The same percentage does not have access to fresh drinking water.   During the French occupation in the 17th and 18th centuries, Haiti was known as the pearl of the Antilles, producing much wealth for France.  Today, it cannot even make sugar from their home-grown sugar cane.  Yet, amidst all its poverty and decay there are still remnants of its beauty, starting with her people.

Fountain Park UMC has been associated with New Missions in Haiti since the early 1990s, with various church members sponsoring about a dozen Haitian children through the mission. The sponsorship provides a Christian education, school materials, uniform material, access to the missions medical clinic, and most importantly a hot meal for each student.  The mission feeds each student physically, intellectually and spiritually. Today New Missions does ministry in 22 villages and has 10,000 Haitian students attending its schools.
.

During the week of December 6, 2009, Fountain Park members John & Vicki Winter did volunteer work at New Missions and surrounding villages bringing the word of God to the Haitians.  Join us on our yearly December short term mission trip to Haiti, where you will have the opportunity to visit with your sponsored child.  You'll also visit some of the villlages praying and bringing gifts from Jesus to the members of the village and have fun playing with the delightful children.  Volunteer work includes helping in the mission clinic, schools and distributing food as well as participating in the enthusiastic worship services.

There next planned visit will be in January, 2011.

Haiti Mission

After the Haiti earthquake, John and Vicki Winter collected a total of 106 Haiti Emergency Relief Kits.  Of those, 70 came from Fountain Park United Methodist Church.  The goal was 50, so they surpassed their goal.  Praise God! In March of 2010 they shipped out the Relief Kits. Sargento Cheese provided free shipping of the kits to the New Missions Orlando warehouse.  New Missions was only 10 miles from the epicenter of the earthquake and the mission campus along with most of the churches and schools in the 22 villages surrounding the village suffered considerable damage.  Your prayers for New Missions to rebuild and continue serving the Haitians through God is requested.

For more information on New Missions, visit their website at newmissions.org.

Fountain Park member Nathan Drewry spent the week of June 13, 2010 in Haiti. He volunteered in the village of Cadez, which is located near the Dominican border.  Nate served as part of short term mission team with Brent Gambrell Ministries from Nashville, TN.  For more information on Brent's ministry check out his site at www.brentgambrell.com

During the week, team members worked with New Life Link, an orphanage started and operated by Dr. Jacob J. Bernard.  For more information on Dr. Bernard's ministry, see www.newlifelink.org/indexen.html

Aldersgate

The purpose of Aldersgate Renewal Ministries is to encourage individuals and their churches by the grace of God and the love of our Lord Jesus Christ to be filled, gifted, empowered and led by the Holy Spirit in ministry to the world.  ARM ministers locally, nationally and internationally.

Ephesians 4:11 reminds us that God gave gifts to the Body of Christ to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ.  ARM seeks to nurture, educate and equip individuals and churches to minister in the power of the Holy Spirit. To individuals, ARM offers learning experiences that teach about the integral ministry of the Holy Spirit who empowers them to pray, worship and to share their faith journey, carrying on the ministry of Jesus.  ARM also purposes to strengthen the church with a strategy of team-led renewal events tailored to the spiritual needs of the local congregation.  ARM offers tools to help the local church establish a vibrant prayer, worship and faith-sharing life fueled by the power of the Holy Spirit. www.aldersgaterenewal.org
